Project Poncho: Children's Clothes for Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees
Impact to date
100 SPECIALTY-designed ponchos for the winter of 2015, spring of 2016
Duhok & Erbil, Iraq (including contested territories)
In the winter of 2015, HERA staff traveled throughout the contested territories in Northern Iraq, interviewing the needs of internally displaced families. Often living in temporary housing or inadequate shelter, children walked barefoot in the snow and slept on wet ground. HERA knew we had to help.
Bringing together an international group of fashion designers, donors, and humanitarians, HERA started Project Poncho.
Project Poncho is a specially designed poncho for refugee and internally displaced children. It keeps its owner dry and warm in the winter and can be turned into a tent for shade in the summer.
HERA has distributed 100s of ponchos in the Kurdish Region of Iraq.
